Japanese Broadcaster Apologizes For False Missile Alert

TOPSHOT-NKOREA-JAPAN-MISSILE

Japanese broadcaster NHK is apologizing for sending out a false alert that North Korea had launched a ballistic missile.

Yesterday's false missile alarm was the second in a matter of days, with a similar mistake causing widespread panic in Hawaii on Saturday.

The message was sent in Japanese shortly before 7 p.m. and went out across the public broadcaster's Japanese apps and website. The misinformation was corrected a few minutes later, and NHK said a switching error was to blame for the false report.
