If you’ve been a race fan for a while now, you probably remember the name Elmo Langley. Elmo drove the pace car at Sprint Cup races from 1989 till he died, after suffering a heart attack in the pace car, in 1996. Langley was also a driver, running 535 races over a 27 year career. 48 years ago yesterday, June 4th 1966, Elmo Langley scored the first of his two wins in the Cup race at the Piedmont Interstate Fairgrounds. Yes, they ran Sprint Cup in Spartanburg back in the day! That race turned out tp be the last of the 22 Cup races run on the dirt track. MASH RIGHT HERE for the complete rundown from that race.
