Everything was ready for Erick Hill’s sixth birthday party, but just hours before the celebration, the little boy watched as his home went up in flames. The family lost everything, including the birthday boy’s presents, but firefighters from Buffalo Fire Department’s Engine 33 helped make it up to him by throwing him a party a couple of days later.
"We decided to get together, throw him a birthday party, shower him with a lot of gifts, invite his family here and show him that there is a second family out there that he can rely on," explains Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo.
And what a party they had! They had cake and one of the firefighters made Erick a toy box and some superheroes even stopped by to get in on the fun. Erick was also named an honorary member of Engine 33 and is invited to come to the fire station any time he wants.
