A New York police detective is dead and a second officer has been shot in the thigh after a shooting last night during an armed robbery at a cell phone store in Queens. Even more tragic? It appears they were victims of friendly fire.
Officials have confirmed Brian Simonsen is the first New York City police officer killed in the line of duty since July 2017. The 18-year veteran was apparently was shot in the chest after confronting the robber during the exchange. The second officer, who has not been named, is expected to recover.
One of the suspects was shot multiple times and transported to the hospital in police custody and taken into custody. The suspect, who has been identified as 27-year-old Christopher Ransom was last listed in stable condition. They said his weapon was an imitation gun.
