A woman in Washington, D.C. who has been deeply affected by the recent government shutdown is thankful for an anonymous donor who helped her make ends meet. Quashawn Latimer was in the news recently because she was a furloughed federal worker fighting cancer and had to make a devastating choice: paying for her rent or paying for chemo.
The U.S. Navy veteran and mother of three chose to pay for her chemo and then something wonderful happened. “Someone called in to the hospital and took care of my account,” Latimer says. “They wiped out my entire balance.”
She says a generous stranger also paid her rent for next month.“It is blessings, and it is a bright side to this,” Latimer says, “and I thank God for it.”
