Couple And Wedding Guests Pack Meals For Starving Kids

When Adam Claude and Chara Juneau tied the knot on New Year’s Eve, guests didn’t shower them with rice, but it did play an important part in the evening. The Minnesota couple got married at the Feed My Starving Children headquarters in Coon Rapids and after they said “I do,” the bride and groom and all their guests put on plastic hair nets and packed rice in meals that will help feed children in Sierra Leone.

The newlyweds say they’re minimalists and they wanted a wedding that represented their shared values. They met while volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, have spent many date nights there and it’s even where Claude popped the question, so it was an ideal location for their nuptials. Their friends and family loved the idea and together, they all packed 22,000 meals that will feed 60 kids for a year in the African country.

"The whole thing cost very little money," Claude explains of their unique wedding. "I didn't want to start our lives in debt. It was a great way to generate money — rather than spending thousands of dollars, we could raise thousands of dollars."
