A Missouri 13-year-old was physically assaulted and threatened with a gun by several other teens and the shocking scene was captured on video and shared on Facebook. Now two minors and a 17-year-old are in custody for the crime, but Derrin, the boy who was punched and harassed, has understandably been terrified to go back to school since.
So when Chris Bergen, a high school automotive instructor, and his wife Anna, found out what happened to Derrin, they helped organize an event called “Ride for Derrin.” About 100 bikers came out in Independence to show the teen that the community cares for him and they won’t tolerate anyone hurting another person.
Chris says he and his wife will continue to help by escorting any student who asks to classes. So “they can walk into school a little prouder than they did when this happened,” Anna explains.
