A few days ago a three-story brick wall collapsed in Philadelphia, crushing Jose Gonzalez’s car. No one was hurt when his neighbor’s wall fell, but Gonzalez’s dog, an American pit bull terrier named Magic, was nowhere to be found.
Pedro Palmer’s construction company was hired to clean up the brick mess and Gonzalez told him to be on the lookout for Magic as they worked. The dog owner was afraid he’d never see his pet again, but after two days Palmer saw something black and moving in the rubble as he was sifting with heavy equipment. He and some coworkers started digging by hand, but he said, “That’s impossible, that can’t be the dog.”
But it was. Magic was alive under the bricks and Palmer says the pooch was back on his feet and walking 15 minutes after being rescued. Magic was treated at the vet for dehydration and trauma and Gonzalez and his dog are happy to be reunited. He says, “They say men don’t cry, but I was so happy, I was crying.”
