Hurricane Florence could mean a shortage of Thanksgiving turkeys. I never knew this, but North Carolina is the number one turkey state in the country. Many of Butterball's processing plants, hatcheries and feed mills are right in the storm's projected path. According to the National Turkey Federation, stores will try to stock more frozen turkeys to help to offset some of the projected shortage. The experts do say they believe we’ll all have a turkey, if that’s how you do Thanksgiving!
Also, North Carolina is the nation’s top grower of sweet potatoes, producing half of the country’s supply. If flooding occurs, and it will, the tubers could rot, and some crops may become unharvestable.
