In a scary moment during last night’s 5-1 loss to the Red Sox, Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson was hit in the back of the head by this pitch from Rick Porcello.
Swanson spoke with trainers and was ultimately removed from the game after initially heading toward first base. After the game, Braves manager Brian Snitker said Swanson was recovering and that it wasn’t expected to be a serious injury.
“He passed all the tests, which is good,” Snitker said. “He’s sore. It’s a head contusion. He’s day to day. Long term, he’s going to be good. He’s not going to be put under any concussion protocol or anything like that. I’m just glad it was a breaking ball and not a fastball.”
Thankfully Porcello hit him with a slider instead of his fastball, which has been clocked in the high 90’s.
