Dolly Parton Gives Away 100-Millionth Book To Kids’ Reading Program

posted by Charlie Munson -

When Dolly Parton started her nonprofit, “Imagination Library”, two decades ago, she had a goal of getting books to kids around the world. She’s definitely helped some young readers over the years and now The Library of Congress has honored her by celebrating the 100-millionth book she’s donated.

Parton started the program in honor of her own father, who she calls the “smartest man” she ever knew, even though he couldn’t read. Now “The Book Lady,” as she’s known to the children who receive her donated books, has shown so many young minds the power of reading.

“Of all the things I’ve done in my life, and it’s been a lot ’cause I’ve been around a long time, this is one of the most precious things and the proudest I am of any program,” Dolly told the audience at the Nation’s Library in Washington, D.C.
