America's Oldest Veteran Victim Of ID Theft

It’s bad enough to steal anyone’s identity, but to pilfer the information of the oldest man in America? We’re guessing there has to be a special visit from Karma for that. The country first came to know Richard Overton as the country’s oldest living veteran, but now the family of the 112-year-old says someone got to know his bank accounts – and emptied them.

The thievery was discovered by a cousin who noticed the discrepancy when she was making a deposit in the World War Two veteran's account. "He's going to be upset," family friend Martin Wilford tells KEYE. "We are trying to keep him in his home through all types of fundraisers, and someone could just take from him? You're going to do that to him? Shame on you."

The Austin Police Department is investigating.

You might recall, Overton was honored by President Barack Obama during a 2013 Veterans Day Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery as the nation's oldest living veteran.
