A priest says the French police officer who died after switching places with a hostage during an ISIS attack married his finance while on his death bed.
Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame was shot three times by an Islamic extremist Friday and later died in the hospital. He's been hailed as a hero after he took the place of a female hostage and left his cell phone on so his fellow officers could hear what was happening inside the besieged supermarket.
Just hours before he succumbed to his wounds, he exchanged vows with his partner, Marielle. The two had planned to get married in church but it was not to be. A priest performed the marriage ceremony at the hospital and gave him the final sacrament.
The attacker was eventually killed by officers.
