George Strait was honored as 2018 Texan of the Year yesterday by the Texas Legislative Conference at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center. George was honored, in part, for his efforts raising over $50 million for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
"No one has done more than George Strait to raise awareness and funds for the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts,” Conference Chair Doug Miller, former Texas State Representative, said. “He put his well-earned reputation on the line and asked not only his fellow Texans to step up, but all Americans. And they have."
Several prominent names have received the Texas honor in the past, including Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, and former first ladies Laura Bush and Barbara Bush.
