Nonprofit Gives Over 400 Kids Their First Bicycle
Thanks to the Community Cycling Center in Portland, Oregon, hundreds of kids got the chance to ride a bike for the first time recently. And the nonprofit also gave them those wheels to take home at their annual Holiday Bike Drive.
Since 1995, the program has provided over 10,000 bicycles to children from low income families and this year they made 400 more kids smile with the gift of a bike. The kids also got helmets and a bike safety lesson.
“Everyone can remember the joy of their first bike and the feeling of being on the bike as a kid and the excitement and freedom and the joy that comes with it,” says Kasandra Griffin, who’s with the Community Cycling Center. “Being able to be in a room to create that feeling for 400 kids in one day, it's kind of incomparable.”
