Man Repaints Road Arrows to Ease Commute

U.S. Skies and Roads Busy Ahead Of Memorial Day Weekend

It may sound like a genius idea, but changing the traffic pattern is highly illegal. So discovered a man in China who was fined after a camera captured him repainting white arrows on the road.

Police in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, caught Xiao Cai, redirecting street arrows with gentle strokes of white paint to free up traffic patterns along his home commute.

"I saw that the straight lane was always packed with cars, while the lane that turns left has a lot of space," he apparently told police. "I thought changing the signs would make my commute smoother."

Police issued Cai a $151 fine, calling the stunt "very dangerous" because it could have led to multiple collisions.
