For 23 years, Fred Vautour has worked as a janitor at Boston College. The 63-year-old Waltham, Massachusetts man has worked the overnight shift at the prestigious New England college where all five of his children were accepted and attended. And because of their dad’s employment, they all got free tuition!
Vautour’s graveyard shift from midnight to seven a.m. has saved his family over $700,000 in tuition. This job isn’t glamorous, but it’s valuable and he’s only missed three and a half days of work in the 23 years he’s worked there. This proud father has remained committed to the job rather than pursuing other higher paying opportunities because of the education it provided for his kids.
“He is so passionate about work and about getting us to be the best people we can be,” Vautour’s daughter Amy says. And his daughter Alicia says the biggest thing she learned from her dad is dedication, which he is a shining example of.
