Andrea Ramirez was really looking forward to the trip to DIsneyland her family had been planning for a year. The 10-year-old had been saving her money all year and had $200 already packed in her suitcase for the upcoming vacation.
Sadly, the California family’s home was burglarized before they went to Disney and the thief took off with Andrea’s money. Officers talked about how sad it was and decided to raise $200 to replace the money she saved for Disney. But they didn’t stop at $200 - once word got out, the Salinas Police chipped in to raise $1,050 for the family, who was blown away by the generosity.
“Her dad was so humble and so grateful; Andrea was absolutely stunned,” Salinas Police Chief Adele Frese says. “This is the type of thing that we go to policing for. To heal harms is kind of healing for us too.”
