Off-Duty Daytona Police Officer Stops Kidnapping

posted by Charlie Munson -

When Daytona Beach Police Officer Troy Belden was off-duty and in the McDonald’s drive-thru in nearby New Smyrna Beach, Florida, he saw something suspicious. The SWAT team member watched as a man followed a boy from inside the restaurant toward his family’s car.

Then the man jumped into the car, and Belden took action. "It's like he did a Superman dive into the passenger seat, trying to get to the children,” he explains. “Once they started screaming, I jumped in.”

Officer Belden grabbed the man and after he tried to run away, the cop “brought him to the ground.” The kid’s dad grabbed Belden’s handcuffs and restrained him. Thankfully the boys were fine and the suspect has been charged with kidnapping, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and burglary.
