Russian Bombers Get Close To Alaska Again

posted by Charlie Munson -

They're at it again. Two Russian bombers reportedly flew close to the coast of Alaska for the second time this week. This time, however, the U.S. Air Force did not scramble any fighter jets in response to the latest Russian incursion.

As you might recall, American jets were deployed during the first “fly by” Monday night, but they did attempt to intercept the Russian jets. This time, however, officials at NORAD opted to track the Russians with an Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft.

And while American officials are downplaying the significance of the “international exchange,” the timing can’t be ignored. Because sure, it was twice in two days this time, but overall, the Russians have flown in the area about 60 times since 2007.
