As Speedweeks 2017 concluded three days ago, Team Penske’s Joey Logano exited Daytona International Speedway with a contract extension that’ll keep him behind the wheel of the Number-22 Ford for the next seven years. The new agreement also includes primary sponsor Shell/Pennzoil and crew chief Todd Gordon remaining in the fold. Logano is embarking on his fifth season with Team Penske and will make his three hundredth career Cup Series start the end of next month at Richmond International Raceway – twenty-four days before his 27th birthday. Logano is the 2015 winner of the Daytona 500 and the championship runner-up to Jimmie Johnson in last year’s post-season Chase … He wasn’t the only driver making sponsorship news during Speedweeks. Denny Hamlin, the 2016 Daytona 500 champion, and Joe Gibbs Racing announced that long-time partner FedEx had signed a contract extension to continue its support of the Number-11 Toyota. Hamlin has driven for J-G-R since his rookie season in 2005 and will make his four hundredth Cup Series start this Sunday in the QuikTrip Folds of Honor 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
