You May Get Less Chocolate in Your Heart Box This Year

If you buy your Valentine a heart-shaped box of chocolates, you may find less chocolate than you were expecting. This is because some brands are intentionally using larger packages to make consumers think they are getting more for their money but only half filling them!

Even though there is a federal law that makes leaving too much empty space in a package illegal, some companies still resort to these tactics. Edgar Dworsky, founder of Consumer World, investigated this issue and found that some brands, like Russell Stover and Whitman’s Sampler, are leaving their packages almost two-thirds empty!

So before you buy that box of chocolates, you may want to check the net weight of the package to make sure you are getting what you expect.
