Shortly after being born, Corbin McCullers from Kentucky began having trouble breathing. He was diagnosed as having Down's Syndrome and a serious congenital heart defect. His parents were devastated by the diagnosis and the news that little Corbin would need open heart surgery.

Corbin underwent surgery at three months of age. Now, at 17 months, Corbin is defying the odds! His mom says he's hitting milestones faster than anyone expected. His parents want other parents who are going through a similar experience to know they are not alone and to never give up on their children.

"What's helped us the most was getting connected with other parents going through the same thing, Once you get through the other side, life awaits. You're going to be in the trenches, but I promise it gets better." ~ Lyndsay Figgins McCullers
"Just don't ever give up on anybody, just because they have a disability or something's medically wrong." ~ Brett McCullers.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where Corbin had his surgery, has just opened the Heart and Mind Wellbeing Center to support those living with congenital heart disease, which is first center of its kind in the U.S. They provide mental and emotional health support as well as heart treatments.
