Homeless Kids Get Birthday Party From Boutique Truck

An old TastyKake delivery truck is still delivering goodies, but this time it’s helping to brighten the birthdays of homeless children. Beverly’s Birthdays rolls up to homeless shelters, residential recovery programs and similar spots to bring birthday parties and all that goes with it to kids who probably wouldn’t get one otherwise.

Meg Yunn started the Pittsburgh nonprofit six years ago after meeting an 11-year-old girl named Beverly who had never had a birthday party or a piece of birthday cake to celebrate. And Yunn’s “birthday boutique” doesn’t just bring the party, they bring that truck filled with new clothes for the birthday boy or girl to go shopping and get new duds, so they feel good and look good, too.

Yunn says what they’re doing for these kids is bigger than clothes, they like to call it “hope on a hanger,” adding, “It’s all about self-worth and self-esteem.”
